Cambodia Securities Exchange Sees Growing Investor Interest: 20 Companies Invest $330 Million

The Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) continues to gain momentum as the number of listed companies on the IPO reaches an impressive milestone of 20, with a cumulative capital investment of US$330 million. HE Hong So Hour, the Government delegate overseeing the Cambodia Securities Exchange Company, made this announcement during the official registration ceremony of Meng Ly J Company’s Kouch Education Case on June 28, 2023.

While the figures are not on par with neighboring countries such as Thailand and Vietnam, the increasing number of companies joining the Cambodia Securities Exchange signifies positive progress. HE Sou Socheat, Royal Government Delegate responsible for the Securities Regulator of Cambodia, highlighted that several other promising companies are preparing to issue securities, indicating a promising outlook for the future.

In the first half of 2023 alone, three companies have successfully listed on the Cambodia Securities Exchange, including Mengly J. Kouch Education Case CC. As the first educational institution to issue publicly traded securities, it raised approximately US$5.1 million upon its official listing. Duke Dr. Kouch Mengly, CEO of Mengly JSC. Kouch Education, revealed that the initial public offering consisted of over 19 million shares, equivalent to 5.88% of the company’s total shares, with a modest share price of 2,080 riels.

Looking ahead, Mengly JSC. Kouch Education aims to secure an additional $10 million in funds to further invest in the development of 160 school buildings across the country’s provinces and capital. Presently, the company operates 16 branches in the capital province, highlighting its commitment to expanding access to quality education nationwide.

The remarkable growth witnessed by the Cambodia Securities Exchange reflects investors’ increasing confidence in the country’s capital market. With a significant rise in capital collection in 2022, totaling more than 222 billion riels (over $54 million) and a notable 133% increase compared to 2021, Cambodia’s securities market is demonstrating its potential and attracting both local and international interest.
