Cambodia’s Trust Regulator (TR) has reported that 492 trusts have been registered as of 23 February 2023, with a combined capital of US$735 million. The Commercial Trust sector has the largest number of trusts, accounting for 66% of the total registered capital at US$492 million, followed by Financial Trust at US$174 million and Public Trust at US$64 million.

According to HE Sok Dara, TR Director-General, the rapid growth of the trust sector in Cambodia highlights the rapid growth of the new sector. He added that Cambodia is now a priority for the trust market with full operation.

“Through this achievement, the regulators can assess that in the short term of development, the trust sector in Cambodia has been successfully implemented and can assume that Cambodia has the priority of the trust market with the full operation,” he said in a trusted forum 2023 on regulatory frameworks, best practices, and opportunities which were held on 28 February.

The 2019 Trust Law outlines the rules and procedures for establishing, registering, managing, and controlling four types of trusts: Commercial, Public, Social, and Personal Trust.
