On September 10, 2026, the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, led by Chargé d’Affaires Aleks Zittle, convened a high-level reception in Siem Reap bringing together public health professionals, provincial leaders, demining implementers, and international partners to review ongoing joint security initiatives and refine strategies for humanitarian support targeted toward border-conflict-affected communities.

Building upon ongoing programs, the United States announced a new $3 million, three-year partnership with APOPO, a non-profit mine-action organization renowned for its humanitarian landmine clearance operations. This initiative will directly fund targeted landmine clearance operations across Preah Vihear and Oddar Meanchay provinces, alongside unexploded ordnance clearance in Mondulkiri.
