US Provides Aid to Renovate Preah Vihear and Bakheng Temples

The United States government has provided almost half a million dollars in grant aid to help restore and renovate two ancient temples in Cambodia— Preah Vihear and Bakheng..

According to AKP, this project is the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the US Embassy in Cambodia, and the World Monument Fund (WMF).

Approximately US$120,000 will be used to repair the north staircase of the Preah Vihear temple and to restore the ancient drainage system on both sides. Meanwhile, another US$300,000 will be provided to the WMF continue the Bakheng Temple conservation project (phase 5) until 2022.

The project is part of the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation, which was established to preserve cultural heritage sites around the world.
