US$231m Stung Pursat Hydropower Project to Operate in April 2026

The Stung Pursat 1 hydropower project, which has a capacity of 80 MW and is being built by a Korean company at the cost of over US$231 million, is scheduled to become operational in April 2026.

Pursat Provincial Governor HE Khoy Rida also announced plans to build two more projects, with the second possibly located above the first project and the third at the Pursat-Kong border, to serve the needs of its people and support economic growth.

The governor highlighted the benefits of the Stung Pursat 1 project, which will provide electricity and water resources and serve as a luxury tourist area to attract visitors to the Veal Veng district and the province.

“In April 2026, it will be fully operational. In fact, it should finish earlier, but the company said that by April (2026), Stung Pursat 1 project will start operating. If there is the first one, there is actually the second one,” he claimed. (Read more)

Pursat province currently has three hydropower substations: the Osom substation, the Pursat substation, and the Svay Sar substation. The new projects are expected to strengthen the province’s energy infrastructure further and support its economic development.

The Stung Pursat hydropower project is a significant investment for the province and is poised to positively impact its future growth. As construction progresses, the project is likely to draw more attention from potential investors and boost the province’s prospects for sustainable economic development.
