Kampong Speu Leads Cambodia with 95 New Investment Projects in Just One Year

From September 2023 to August 2024, Kampong Speu province emerged as a top destination for investment in Cambodia, attracting 95 new projects out of a total of 391 approved by the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC). This influx of investments highlights Kampong Speu’s rising prominence as an industrial and economic hub, as reported by HE Cheam Chansophoan, Governor of Kampong Speu Province, on 1 September 2024.

To date, the new government has approved these 391 projects, representing more than USD 7.5 billion in total investment capital and the potential to create 341,000 jobs. Of these projects, 261 are outside the Special Economic Zones (SEZs), while 130 are located within SEZs. Kampong Speu, with its 95 projects, was followed by Svay Rieng province, which attracted 73 investment projects.

Breaking down the sector distribution, 52% of the investment projects were in the industrial sector, 39% were in infrastructure and other sectors, 8% in tourism, and 8% in agriculture and agro-industry. The report noted a substantial increase in approved projects and investment capital compared to the previous period under the 6th legislature of the Royal Government, with 168 more projects approved and a 161% increase in investment capital, totalling around USD 4.672 billion.

Chinese investors accounted for the majority of these investments, contributing 60.44% of the total, while domestic investors made up 32.31%, demonstrating Cambodia’s appeal to both international and local investors in the rapidly developing Southeast Asian market.
