Cambodia’s Digital Leap: PM Hun Manet Emphasises 5G Education Infrastructure Development

Cambodia, under the leadership of Samdech Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, is accelerating the development of its education infrastructure. The focus lies in digital transformation, transitioning from 4G to 5G, aligning with global advancements and modern technological needs. The Prime Minister made this announcement at the inauguration of the Faculty of Economics and Digital Technology at the National University of Management, Veal Sbov Branch, on 15 February 2024.

PM Hun Manet emphasized that the shift towards a digital economy and Industry 4.0 necessitates the concurrent development of human resources, economic foundations, and infrastructure capable of supporting this evolution. Cambodia is actively studying the transition from 4G to 5G to ensure it stays competitive in an increasingly digital world, where numerous countries have already embraced 5G technology.

Acknowledging the escalating global competition, Prime Minister Hun Manet stressed the critical role of human resource and infrastructure development in the education sector. This, he believes, will position Cambodia for sustained competitiveness in the long term.

Furthermore, the digital modernization initiative aligns with the government’s Pentagonal Strategy, with the initial phase focusing on prioritizing human resource development over the next 25 years.

In a recent development, Telecom Cambodia CamGSM (Cellcard) secured an additional investment of approximately US$70 million from GuarantCo. This investment aims to construct new 4G towers and enhance existing equipment, ensuring efficiency in the power sector. The groundwork laid by these advancements will set the stage for the imminent rollout of the 5G network. (Read more)
