Cambodia and World Bank Strengthen Commitment to Long-Term Cooperation

In a significant development for the Kingdom, Cambodia and the World Bank have pledged to enhance and broaden their collaborative efforts in various key sectors, reinforcing their long-term partnership. This commitment was made during a meeting on July 7, 2025, between Prime Minister Hun Manet and Ms. Manuela V. Ferro, the World Bank’s Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific.

During their discussions, both leaders focused on several potential areas for cooperation, including public-private partnerships, advancements in the digital sector, the promotion of renewable energy, and vital infrastructure development. They also highlighted the importance of improving education as a cornerstone for future growth.

Ms. Ferro expressed her admiration for Cambodia’s resilience, noting the nation’s economic stability amidst global uncertainties. She emphasized that the World Bank remains dedicated to fostering this partnership through continuous support in crucial areas such as health, education, and agriculture.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet acknowledged the World Bank’s significant contributions to Cambodia’s social and economic progress over the years. He urged the World Bank to deepen its collaboration with relevant ministries and institutions to further amplify their joint efforts.

The World Bank also outlined key recommendations to bolster Cambodia’s economic growth, advocating for stronger partnerships between the private sector and government. Additionally, it emphasized the need to enhance the capabilities of vital sectors, including energy, agriculture, and infrastructure, while improving connectivity to both regional and global markets through existing trade agreements.

This renewed commitment showcases Cambodia’s strategic approach to harnessing international partnerships to drive sustainable development and economic resilience.
