Koh Tonsay Beach to Angkol Beach Road Connection 80% Completion: Game-Changer for Kep Tourism

In picturesque Kep province, construction of the much-anticipated road linking Koh Tonsay Beach to Angkol Beach has surged ahead, reaching an impressive 80% completion as of 18 October 2023.

Governor of Kep Province HE Som Piseth enthusiastically shared this update with AKP, underlining the critical role this project plays in bolstering Kep’s burgeoning tourism industry.

This 11-kilometer road, which gracefully follows the coastline, will span from Koh Tonsay Port to Angkol Beach. It is set to become a lifeline for the province, enhancing connectivity and beckoning visitors to explore the natural beauty and serene shores of Kep.

Crucially, this transformational project has been made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), with an investment of approximately US$10.5 million. It symbolizes not only a road but also the path toward greater prosperity for Kep.

Governor HE Som Piseth firmly believes this route will emerge as a vital tourist artery, seamlessly linking Kep and Angkol beaches. By providing this connection, the road will alleviate congestion at the Kep Beach Resort, allowing for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience for visitors. The potential of this project to double the influx of tourists to Kep is an exciting prospect for the region’s future.

The construction team has been urged by HE Som Piseth to accelerate their efforts in preparation for the Sea Festival, a grand event scheduled for early December 2023. With the completion of the coastal road, the festival is poised to be an extraordinary occasion, welcoming visitors to Kep’s rejuvenated and inviting shores.

This coastal road initiative is a pivotal component of the second phase of the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) tourism infrastructure project. Alongside the road project, the ADB’s involvement extends to two additional sub-projects: a landfill and the much-anticipated Koh Tonsay port project, all of which are anticipated to elevate Kep’s appeal and vitality.
