The 331km NR No. 5 Upgrades on Track for 2023 Completion

The construction of NR No. 5 is making significant progress. The road is divided into three sections, with the southern section from Prek Kdam-Thlea Mam nearly 98% complete, the central section from Thla Mam – Battambang and Serei Sophorn – Poipet at 69% completion, and the northern section connecting Battambang-Serei Sophorn fully complete, according to HE Senior Minister Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport.

The entire road stretches for 366 km, and a total of 331 km will be completed and inaugurated in the middle of 2023. The remaining 35 km will be completed by the end of 2024 or early 2025.

HE Chanthol urged the construction company to complete all work as soon as possible, so the ministry could officially inaugurate NR5 in June 2023. “We are urging the construction company to complete as soon as possible so that we could submit an official letter to Samdech Hun Sen Prime Minister of Cambodia to officially inaugurate NR5 connecting from Prek Kdam-Poipet-Battambang,” said HE.

National Road No. 5 is divided into three sections for the southern section from Prek Kdam-Thlea Mam, with a total length of 135.25 km, which has been 98% completed. The central section from Thla Mam – Battambang and Serei Sophorn – Poipet with a total length of 146.04 km has 69% complete. The northern section with a total length of 84.74km stretch connecting Battambang-Serei Sophorn, has been 100% completed.

The slow progress of the last stretch of NR 5 construction connecting from Siri Sophorn to Poi Pet, with a length of 35 km, is because the auction has just finished, and the construction has just started. This section will be 100% complete by 2025.

The 84.74 km stretch of NR 5 connecting Battambang-Serei Sophorn was officially inaugurated under the presidency of Samdech Hun Sen in January last year. (Read more)

With the completion of NR5, Cambodia will have better connectivity between its capital city and the Thai border, which will help boost trade and investment opportunities.
