PM Hun Sen Inaugurates NR5’s Battambang-Serey Sophorn Section

The 84km Battambang-Serey Sophorn section of NR5 was officially inaugurated under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Japan Ambassador to Cambodia HE Mikami Masahiro on Monday 10 January.

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the section includes the main road connecting Battambang to Serey Sophorn 51km, Battambang city bypass road 23km, and Serey Sophorn city bypass 9km.

The Battambang-Serey Sophorn is the first section to be completed among the three sections of NR5 rehabilitation worth US$500 million funded by the Japanese government.

To date, the Prek Kdam-Pursat section is over 64% complete and schedule to open for the public by mid-2022. Meanwhile, the Pursat-Battambang is 54% complete and will be opened for usage in 2023.

In the meantime, MPWT is bidding for the contractors for the Serey Sophorn-Poipet section.
