Tbong Khmum Governor initiates 8,000 hectare flooded forest preservation area for ecotourism

The Tbong Khmum provincial administration plans to transform over 8,000 hectares of flooded forest into s flooded forest preservation area for serving the ecotourism sector, according to H.E. Cheam Chansophorn, Provincial Governor of Tbong Khmum at a press conference on Progress and Continuing Direction of Tbong Khmum Province on 25 June 2020.

“If we can preserve this flooded forest, where there is a flooded forest, there is a shelter for fish to spawn. In addition, it can attract birds to live there. People in Krouch Chhmar district, as well as Tbong Khmum province, will gain benefit from this flooded forest, once it is reserved as a natural tourism site,” said Chansophorn.

The conservation is divided into three areas, two of which are in Krouch Chhmar district, which covers 12 communes.

Beside the flooded forest preservation area in Krouch Chhmar district, the administration will also preserve Kade area with more than 1,000 hectares of flooded forest area around Wat Khmourng.

In terms of environmental protection, the Ministry of Environment has allocated 10 hectares of multipurpose land area in Ponhea Kraek district to be used for rubbish storage from Thbong Khmum province.
