PM Warns Against Abusing COVID-19 Fatality Management to Encroach Upon State Land

Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen announced this morning that each provincial administration must continue to prepare land as burial and cremation sites for COVID-19 fatalities, as well as to prepare wood for building coffins.

However, Samdech Hun Sen strongly warned all officials and influential people to not take this opportunity to encroach on state land and fraudulently cut down trees for personal gain, with fatality management purpose as the excuse.

“We must prepare land plot everywhere. Not one per province, but multiple. However, while doing so, officials must not cut down the tree or use the land for personal benefit, otherwise they will face severe publishment,” said PM Hun Sen.

According to his announcement, the government respects all religions and ethnic groups by not only preparing crematoriums, but also preparing land for religions that require burial.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance will also help provide financial support to provincial administrations to start buying at least 80% of coffins from the market as a precautionary measure.
