Landmark Achievement: Techo Santepheap National Hospital, Cambodia’s Largest Medical Facility, Officially Unveiled

A momentous milestone in Cambodia’s healthcare landscape was reached as Techo Santepheap National Hospital, the nation’s largest medical institution, was formally inaugurated after a dedicated 12-month construction period. The official inauguration ceremony, presided over by Prime Minister Hun Manet on 24 October 2023, marked the beginning of a new era in healthcare accessibility for the people of Cambodia.

This hospital, nestled within the sprawling 7-hectare landscape of Kob Srov Thom village, Sangkat Kork Roka, Khan Prek Pnov, boasts a grand total of 11 buildings and an astounding capacity of 10,000 beds. This monumental achievement represents a testament to Cambodia’s commitment to providing world-class healthcare facilities to its citizens and the region.

Dr Suon Samith, Director of Techo Santepheap National Hospital, elaborated on the institution’s pioneering approach, stating, “When patients arrive at the hospital, they will not have to worry about any resources, whether they can afford it or not. If they are unable to bear the expenses, displaying their poverty card or social security card will suffice. Moreover, if they find themselves without any means, the hospital will extend its services free of charge. Typically, patients who seek treatment will receive care for a wide array of ailments without the burden of financial documentation. Our primary focus is on delivering advanced medical services to patients.”

Dr Samith further noted, “Post-treatment, patients can approach the hospital for any inquiries, or our staff may initiate these discussions upon the conclusion of treatment.”

The hospital’s significance is underscored by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, who announced that individuals would have access to Techo Santepheap Hospital, the nation’s largest and newest medical facility, free of charge. (Read more)
