UNICEF’s Remarkable Contribution: Over US$44 Million Worth of Medical Equipment Provided to Cambodia

In a significant display of support, UNICEF has been a steadfast ally to Cambodia in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, generously granting medical equipment exceeding a staggering US$44 million since its onset.

Building on this exceptional commitment, UNICEF has recently added an additional US$7 million to provide vital medical equipment for oxygen therapy in Cambodia.

This substantial donation will be allocated to 131 national, provincial, district, and local health centers across the country. The provisions include oxygenation devices, monitors, blood oxygen monitors, pulmonary oxygen inhalers, and other crucial oxygen therapy equipment.

During the momentous handover ceremony held on 12 June, Dr. Yuk Sambath, Permanent Secretary of State for the Ministry of Health, expressed gratitude, stating, “We extend our heartfelt thanks to UNICEF for its invaluable support in effectively responding to the Covid-19 crisis. This assistance ensures the uninterrupted delivery of essential health services for women and children, including routine immunizations and maternal and child healthcare. Our partnership with UNICEF has fortified our healthcare system and enhanced human resource training.

“Today’s donation of oxygen medical equipment represents a significant stride in modernizing our medical equipment and monitoring systems, ultimately contributing to the reduction of maternal, infant, and child mortality.” he added.

With the provision of these essential materials, patients, including children in need of oxygen therapy, will receive life-saving treatment for respiratory conditions and other ailments, such as newborn hypoxia.
