Japan-Funded Drainage Station in Daun Penh Launched on Friday 16 July

A Japanese-funded drainage station in Daun Penh district will be put into operation on Friday 16, with high expectation that it will help stop severe flooding in Daun Penh and surrounding areas.

According to the Phnom Penh Municipal Department of Public Works and Transport, the construction of this drainage station is now over 98% complete. (Read more)

The project includes installation of sewers, the construction of an underground 65,000 cubic metre water reservoir, and the construction of a new pumping station with the capacity to drain up to1.4 cubic metres of water per second.

After going operational, the system will be able to stop the flooding in the area of Wat Phnom Penh and surrounding areas including Street 47, Street 90 and Street 92.

The construction of the drainage station began in early March 2019. It is one of six flood protection projects with total budget of US$36 million under grant aid of the Japanese government through JICA.
