Japanese-Funded Flood Protection Improvement Project Phase 4 Almost 100% Complete

Construction of the Japanese-funded Phnom Penh Flood Protection and Drainage Improvement Project Phase 4 is now over 98% complete, ready for this upcoming rainy season.

According to the Phnom Penh Department of Public Works and Transport this morning, most of the works have been completed including the installation of sewers, the construction of an underground 65,000 cubic metre water reservoir, and the construction of a new pumping station with the capacity to drain up to1.4 cubic metres of water per second.

Upon completion, the project will help solve the flooding problems in the areas around and north of Wat Phnom, including Street 47, Street 90, and Street 92.

In early June, the fourth automatic garbage collection machine in the drainage system (automatic screen pit) in Phnom Penh, which is a part of this project, was also installed and officially put into operation. (Read more)

Funded by a US$36 million grant from the Japanese government, the project comprises the construction of underground water storage, a water pumping station, a mechanical waste bin, and water pumping trucks.
