Chinese Firm to Complete Dara Sakor Airport Construction in Time with Reopening

Construction is being accelerated on the Dara Sakor International Airport in Koh Kong province to be completed as planned by the year-end or early next year, in time with Cambodia’s reopening.

State Secretariat for Civil Aviation (SSCA)’s spokesman Sin Chansereyvutha said on 28 October that construction of the Dara Sakor airport has been slightly affected by the weather and the COVID-19 pandemic, but the company claims that the team are speeding up their work.

“The whole construction is now near completion, but flights cannot immediately proceed. As planned, we are going to reopen to tourism, but a lot of works remain to be done,” he said.

According to the spokesman, the company will request a test flight after the construction work is completed, along with other procedures that must be completed before official flights start.

An investment by the Chinese Union Development Group, Dara Sakor International Airport is being built on a total area of 4.5 hectares in Botum Sakor district in Koh Kong province and is now more than 90% completed. (Read more)
