PM Hun Sen: Construction of Kratie-Kampong Thom Bridge to Begin in 2023

The construction of a new bridge crossing the Mekong River between Kratie and Kampong Thom provinces is scheduled to begin in 2023 along with a new road connecting to Kampong Thmor.

Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen announced the timeline of the project during the inauguration ceremony of the NR7 section in Kratie province on 7 February.

“In 2023, the construction site of the bridge will begin. The bridge will connect the area near Kratie provincial city to Kampong Thom province. The bridge is not only crossing from side to side, but we will link a road to Kampong Thmor in Kampong Thom province as well,” said Samdech Hun Sen.

According to a study by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the 1,761-metre-long bridge will be built under a concessional loan from China and will take between two and three years to be completed.

According to PM Hun Sen, construction by China may be faster than planned.

Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol has confirmed that the ministry has already completed negotiations with contractors for the project, while financial support and studies have also been completed.  [Read more]
