Kandal Province Launches Official Construction of Prek Thnot Riverbank Park to Enhance Urban Beauty

Provincial authorities and Ministry officials join forces to transform the southern riverbank into a modern recreational space for residents and tourists

The landscape of Takhmao city is set for a significant aesthetic upgrade following the official groundbreaking of the Prek Thnoat riverbank park project on January 3, 2026. This ambitious development, situated along the southern side of the Prek Thnot River, aims to create a civilized and attractive environment that harmonizes modern urban design with natural riverside beauty. The commencement ceremony was presided over by His Excellency Ly Raksmey, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, alongside Kandal Governor Kuoch Chamroeun, signaling high-level government support for the initiative.

According to the Kandal Provincial Administration, the park is a central component of a larger project dedicated to reconstructing and improving the riverbank infrastructure. Technical experts involved in the planning have detailed that the renovation will feature contemporary architectural elements intended to elevate the province’s overall profile and serve as a new magnet for tourism. By integrating green spaces with functional public areas, the project seeks to provide a high-quality leisure destination for local families while also protecting the riverbank from erosion.

The development is part of a broader trend of urban revitalization across Cambodia, where provincial capitals are increasingly focusing on public spaces to improve the quality of life for their citizens. Local officials emphasized that the finished park will be a source of pride for Takhmao, offering a modern and safe environment for exercise, relaxation, and social gatherings. As construction progresses, the administration remains committed to ensuring that the project meets international standards of urban beauty and sustainability, ultimately contributing to a more vibrant and livable city for all residents of Kandal province.
