Chinese Investors Eyeing Cambodian Agriculture, Plans $400 Million Investment on 300K hectares

Chinese investors are looking to invest $400 million in Cambodia’s agricultural sector, requiring 300,000 hectares of land, according to a recent meeting between a Chinese investment delegation and the governor of Kampong Thom province on 27 April 2023.

HE Duong Dara, Samdech Hun Sen’s personal assistant and Secretary of State of the Council of Ministers, expressed interest in Kampong Thom as a potential location for agricultural development, particularly in cashew crops, and urged the Chinese company to invest in the province.

The Chinese company plans to set up modern agricultural infrastructure and technical teams and will help farmers find markets and purchase their products at market prices.

He confirmed that the investment company specializes in the agricultural, agro-industrial, and commercial sectors, and is recognized by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture of China.

He added that “the Chinese investment company needs more than 300,000 hectares of agricultural land, with an investment of more than $ 400 million and they plan to set up modern agricultural infrastructure and technical teams and will help farmers find markets and purchase their products at market prices.”

HE Nguon Rattanak, Governor of Kampong Thom Province, welcomed the Chinese investment delegation, stating that this project will bring in financial flows and new modern technology for agriculture in Kampong Thom and other provinces. The investment is also expected to create job opportunities and income for the local community.

The potential investment highlights Cambodia’s attractiveness to foreign investors, particularly in the agriculture sector. As the country continues to develop its infrastructure and investment policies, it is hoped that more investors will take note of Cambodia’s potential for growth and prosperity.
