Vietnam Breaks Ground on Mekong Delta Expressway

The government of Vietnam has broken ground on a 188km expressway which will stretch across the Mekong Delta to Tran De, a South China Sea port city.

The six-lane expressway is expected to cost US$1.9 billion from the government budget and is expected to be completed in 2026. The new road will connect with Vietnam’s national expressway system as part of a planned further six expressways to link the nation’s ports and economic centres.

The motorway is being developed just as Cambodia is also breaking ground on its own expressway from the capital Phnom Penh to Bavet on the Vietnam border.
