Major Infrastructure Project Nears Completion in Siem Reap

A significant infrastructure development is underway in Siem Reap province, with a 15-kilometre road connecting National Road 6 to the Kampong Phluok tourist area now approximately 70% complete, according to an announcement from the Siem Reap administration.

This vital roadway, which measures 8 metres in width, is part of a project initiated by Prime Minister Hun Manet, aimed at enhancing transportation for residents of Kampong Phluok commune in Prasat Bakong district as well as promoting tourism in the area. The new road will facilitate the movement of fish products and serve as a crucial route for tourists visiting the picturesque Tonle Sap Lake.

Constructed by the Hun Sen Engineering Corps, the project is expected to reach completion by July 2025. The road features two distinct sections: a concrete pathway stretching from National Road 6 to Ta Prak village in Meanchey commune, and a mixed surface section including a 3.25-kilometre concrete road alongside a 9-kilometer paved road leading from Ta Prak village to the Kampong Phluok boat station.

Looking ahead, provincial authorities have announced plans for an additional road to be constructed next year, linking the Kampong Phluok boat station to the local commune school, further enhancing access and connectivity for residents.

The new road is anticipated to greatly benefit the local communities in three communes—Roluos, Meanchey, and Kampong Phluok—by streamlining the transport of fishing and agricultural products. It is also expected to bolster the region’s tourism sector, bringing more visitors to explore the natural beauty and cultural offerings of Kampong Phluok.

As construction progresses, the Siem Reap administration expresses optimism about the positive impact of this infrastructure project on both local economies and the tourism industry.
