New Minister of Tourism Unveils Three Bold Strategies to Attract 6.4 Million Global Visitors by 2025

A triad of strategic pillars is set to propel the nation towards its tourism zenith. The unveiling of these strategies marks a resolute stride towards welcoming 6.4 million international tourists and embracing 16.7 million national tourists by the year 2025. The confluence of ambition, strategy, and unity was revealed in a landmark meeting graced by HE Senior Minister Thong Khon and HE Minister Sok Soken, the newly appointed Minister of Tourism with 400 public officials on 25 August 2022.

Embarking on an odyssey characterized by quality, vibrancy, competitiveness, sustainability, and environmental stewardship, Cambodia’s tourism sector is poised to embark on a transformational journey. The minister’s vision, encapsulated in the theme “tourism connects land and nature,” aims to position Cambodia as a premier global tourism destination—one pulsating with diversity, brimming with opportunities, and radiating warmth. This journey is more than an economic endeavor; it’s a manifestation of Cambodia’s commitment to exalt its prestige and fortitude on the world stage.

HE Sok Soken’s blueprint rests on three foundational strategic goals, each with the potential to shape the future of Cambodian tourism. The triumvirate of priorities includes (1). enhancing tourism competitiveness, (2). fostering tourism sustainability, and (3). nurturing the tourism environment.

Amplifying this endeavor, an innovative quintet of strategic pillars—aptly named “Increase 5-BUILD”—propels Cambodia towards an era of amplified tourism vibrancy. These pillars stand firm on the bedrock of three pivotal developmental components christened as the “Development of 3-3Ds.” This strategic amalgamation charts an irrefutable course for the enhancement of Cambodia’s tourism sector, promoting seamless collaboration between ministries, institutions, and stakeholders.

Harmony, partnership, and synergy are pivotal to HE Minister Sok Soken’s vision. He emphatically underscores the participation of all stakeholders in the transformational narrative, championing the “State-Private-Citizens-People-Development Partners” approach. This framework is poised to nurture a tourism sector that is not just competitive and sustainable, but also immersed in an atmosphere of vibrancy.

With eyes firmly on the future, the Ministry of Tourism paints an aspirational panorama. The vision unfurls—by 2025, Cambodia shall warmly welcome 6.4 million international tourists, alongside embracing 16.7 million national tourists. This trajectory is far from stagnant; the vision persists into 2026, with the ministry foreseeing the embrace of 7 million international tourists and 17 million national tourists.
