Kampot Unveils Giant Clock Project to Boost Tourism

The Kampot Provincial Authority is set to construct a monumental clock standing 35 metres tall, with a face nearly 10 metres in diameter, aiming to enhance the region’s tourism appeal. The announcement was made by HE Mao Thunin, Governor of Kampot Province, during the first regular meeting of the Kampot Provincial Council of the fourth mandate on 25 June 2024.

Governor HE Mao Thunin emphasised the province’s commitment to tourism development, highlighting that Kampot has numerous untapped tourist attractions. The giant clock, designed in Khmer style with floral patterns and Khmer numbers, is part of the provincial administration’s efforts to benefit both local residents and visitors. This initiative follows previous successful installations such as the fish statue, sea horse, and water fountain.

The administration also plans to gradually develop beach resorts starting by the end of June, further solidifying Kampot’s status as a prime tourist destination. The new clock and these developments are expected to attract even more tourists, building on the success of existing attractions such as beaches, fish statues, sea horses, water fountains, and recreational areas that have already led to a significant increase in visitor numbers to the province.
