New Bridge Planned to Enhance Traffic Flow in Kampot Province & Boost Tourism

The Kampot provincial authorities have announced plans to construct a new bridge across the Kampong Bay canal to alleviate traffic congestion and improve accessibility for both local and international tourists, particularly around the base of the Kampot Prek Bridge, which has been exacerbated by rising tourist numbers during weekends and major national holidays, as reported by the Ministry of Information on 27 August 2024.

Governor HE Mao Thunin of Kampot Province has proposed this new bridge construction as a solution to the ongoing traffic challenges. The existing Rainbow Bridge, which currently only accommodates motorcycles and pedestrians due to its deteriorated condition, is no longer sufficient to meet the transportation needs of the growing tourist population.

“The new bridge will be constructed in a unique and attractive style to draw more attention from both local and international tourists,” emphasised Governor Mao Thunin, highlighting the dual focus on functionality and aesthetic appeal to enhance Kampot’s tourism experience.

To further bolster Kampot’s appeal as a tourist destination, the provincial authorities recently installed the largest clock in Cambodia, standing at an impressive height of 35 metres, symbolising the region’s commitment to combining infrastructural improvements with tourist-friendly attractions. (Read more)
