Battambang Authorities to Improve Infrastructure with Accessible Sidewalks and Bicycle Lanes for Disabled Citizens

The Battambang Provincial Administration has embarked on an infrastructure enhancement initiative aimed at making the city more accessible for citizens and tourists, particularly for those with disabilities. The plan includes the development of pedestrian walkways for the disabled, dedicated bicycle lanes, and the installation of solar-powered lights in public parks.

This move is designed to improve mobility and promote outdoor activities for residents and visitors alike. The announcement was made by the Battambang Provincial Administration on 27 August 2024.

Led by HE Sok Lou, Governor of Battambang Provincial Board of Governors, and Mr. Sovann Vithya, Acting Director of the Provincial Information Department, the project includes the construction of pathways stretching from the 13 Makara Bridge near the old provincial hall, along the Sangke River, to the new stone bridge. These walkways will feature separate lanes for cyclists and pedestrians with disabilities, while solar-powered lighting will enhance safety and visibility in the parks.

In addition to this initiative, Battambang authorities have been actively developing and beautifying various parts of the city, including projects like the Independence Monument, Suon Samdech Krala Hom, the night market, the Stung Sangke riverbank, and numerous public spaces. These efforts aim to provide an improved urban environment for both residents and tourists. (Read more)
