Japanese Firm, MIRARTH, Expands Cashew Processing in Kampong Thom with Plans to Extract Oil from Cashew Shells

MIRARTH, a Japanese company operating in Kampong Thom, is significantly expanding its cashew nut processing capacity from 300 tons per year in 2021 to 1,500 tons annually while exploring new avenues for refining oil from cashew shells. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to innovation and value-added processing within Cambodia’s agricultural sector.

The company presented a two-year study on the oil extraction process and is seeking support from the ministry to ensure compliance with food safety standards and to conduct nutritional analysis of cashew products, as confirmed on 2 October 2024.

MIRARTH’s expansion and its interest in refining cashew oil aim to tap into the potential of Cambodia’s growing cashew industry. The company is working closely with the ministry to overcome challenges and meet international standards in cashew oil production. Technical assistance from TOP Planning Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been pivotal in scaling the export of processed cashews, as evidenced by the company’s inauguration of its processing plant in June 2024.
