Cambodia Expands Agricultural Exports to China

In a significant development for Cambodian agriculture, the government has announced plans to export nearly ten major agricultural products to the Chinese market, bolstered by strengthened cooperation in the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) framework. This move aims to enhance trade relations and streamline export processes, facilitating smoother entry for Cambodian goods into one of Asia’s largest markets.

The announcement came following a meeting between Mr. Dith Tina, Cambodia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and Ms. SUN Meijun, Minister of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC). The discussion took place during the 2nd Conference on “Food Safety Mechanism for Export and Import for the Belt and Road Cooperation Framework Member Countries,” held from October 14-15, 2025, in Shanghai.

Key products earmarked for export include brown rice, pineapple, jackfruit, frozen durian, cleaned mango, cooked meat, acorns, and pet food. Both parties have committed to expediting the necessary sanitary and phytosanitary protocols to ensure compliance and facilitate trade.

The Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture views this agreement as a pivotal step in enhancing agricultural trade cooperation and expanding market opportunities for local farmers. Officials are urging farmers and the private sector to adhere to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to ensure the quality and safety of food products, in alignment with the importing countries’ regulations.

In 2024, Cambodia achieved a remarkable milestone, earning over USD 5.2 billion from the export of nearly 12 million tons of agricultural products to 95 countries—a staggering 39% increase compared to 2023. The principal markets for Cambodian exports include China, the United States, Vietnam, and Japan, among others.

This strategic initiative not only aims to boost Cambodia’s presence in global agricultural markets but also seeks to enhance the livelihoods of farmers across the nation.
