Bentley Systems Breaks Bottlenecks with New iTwin Capture Workflow

Bentley Systems is redefining the digital twin landscape by launching a more flexible, scalable approach to reality modeling. The new iTwin Capture workflow aims to eliminate the traditional “hardware wall” and high upfront costs that have long hindered engineers and urban planners.

For years, infrastructure professionals have struggled with massive datasets—from LiDAR point clouds to high-resolution photography—that often bring standard workstations to a halt. Bentley’s updated workflow addresses these friction points by decoupling data preparation from heavy-duty processing.

The core of this new release is iTwin Capture Modeler Flex, which allows users to start projects for free. This “de-risks” the initial phase, letting teams import, edit, and organize raw data without an immediate financial commitment.

Once a project is ready for production, users can choose between two distinct processing paths. First, by using iTwin Capture Engine, firms can leverage their own hardware to run multiple engines in parallel—ideal for high-security projects requiring offline processing.

Another one is cloud Scalability. For city-scale models, iTwin Capture Cloud Services offers limitless computing power and AI-driven analysis, removing hardware constraints entirely.

The workflow produces high-fidelity outputs, including reality meshes and Gaussian splats, designed to integrate directly with design and analysis tools. By moving to a “pay only when you process” financial model, Bentley is aligning software costs with actual project production, a move expected to significantly reduce wasted overhead for engineering firms.

With this unified engine, Bentley ensures that whether a project is processed on a local desktop or in the cloud, the data remains consistent, accurate, and ready to drive smarter infrastructure decisions.
