Innovative Digital Twin Model Set to Revolutionize Public Transport in Greater Cairo

To modernize its aging infrastructure, the Greater Cairo Region (GCR) is leveraging Bentley Systems’ digital tools to develop a new predictive multimodal transportation model.

Implemented by CitiME, the project utilizes Bentley OpenPaths™ CUBE™ to establish a “robust digital foundation” for mobility analytics. This software enables planners to integrate multimodal data, mapping complex travel patterns across both private vehicles and public transit.

Furthermore, the team can simulate the impact of future changes in infrastructure, technology, and demographics on regional accessibility. By testing various “what-if” scenarios, they can identify the most effective investments for sustainable mobility.

Ultimately, the model aims to deliver socially inclusive, green development. This initiative reflects a global trend of using digital twins for urban planning, with the objective of reducing carbon emissions by thousands of tons, increasing travel efficiency by 15%, and promoting active travel through improved cycling and walking routes.
