ADB advises Cambodia to improve property tax collection

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has held a workshop to share knowledge and expertise on property tax management as the collection of this type of tax in Cambodia is still limited.

Held on 23-24 February, the workshop aims to help strengthen property tax collection and boost revenue at the sub-national level.

The workshop shared the results of a detailed appraisal study with policies and recommendations, including the development of standards for real estate appraisal forms and simple tax collection processes.

The ADB officers also helped collect key input from stakeholders and researchers to improve the implementation.

Jyotsana Varma, ADB Country Director for Cambodia, noted that Cambodia’s total tax revenue had risen sharply, but property tax and unused land tax revenue were still low.

She stressed that these taxes are an important source for the development of sub-national administrations to achieve sustainable development goals and promote economic recovery after the COVID-19 crisis.
