Awards Bring New Momentum to Cambodia’s Rapidly Developing Construction and Real Estate Sectors

The third annual edition of the PropertyGuru Cambodia Property Awards 2018, presented by KHI, was held on 16 March in Phnom Penh. The event witnessed a significant increase in the number of participants from both local and international industrial players, proving that the Kingdom’s construction and real estate sectors are becoming the more attractive to different kinds of investors around the region.

The five-star gala dinner at the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra welcomed some 360 guests who traveled from various parts of the Kingdom and overseas to celebrate the property industry, with 26 awards presented to the best of the best in the local real estate scene.

Overall, 27 Winners and 30 Highly Commended companies were recognised by the independent panel of judges for excellence in development, design, and outstanding business practices. More than 50 eligible entries were received by the organisers this year, nearly doubling last year’s submissions.

Big winner Borey Peng Huoth Group, who won Best Developer for the third consecutive year and earned a total of 17 distinctions, was among the industry leaders honoure at the biggest real estate event of the year.

The company’s massive haul of awards and commendations included a Special Recognition in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). In 2017, Borey Peng Huoth Group helped various charities, donating “more than USD2 million, and recently launched initiatives to support the Cambodian Traditional Art Association and various sports clubs, and a new road-building project inaugurated by the Prime Minister,” the competition noted.

It was the first time that the CSR award was presented at the event, and Borey Peng Huoth shared its victory in the category with Japanese firm Creed Group and its affiliates, Creed Asia (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. and Triple Gem Assets Co., Ltd., for “popularising Japanese quality standards in Cambodia and promoting community development in their properties,” according to the judges. Creed Group also won a Special Recognition in Sustainable Development.

With many mixed-use projects underway, urban developers in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville collected several golden trophies during the ceremony, including joint venture LIXIN Construction for its CEO KT Pacific project; Phnom Penh City Center for Eden Garden; and KHCN Investment and Development Co., Ltd. for The Seagate Suite.
