Cambodia Adds 845 New Factories and Creates Over 90,000 Jobs in First Half of 2026

Cambodia’s industrial landscape experienced robust expansion during the first six months of 2026, with the establishment of 845 new factories generating more than 90,000 jobs across the Kingdom. Announcing the half-year development figures on August 5, 2026, Sun Mesa, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, highlighted that the steady growth underscores Cambodia’s enduring appeal as a prime investment destination within the region.

According to official ministry data, total registered operating facilities under the ministry’s jurisdiction increased from 46,649 at the start of the year to 47,494 by the end of June. This significant net gain was led by the industrial manufacturing sector, which continued to serve as the nation’s primary employment engine. Within the key export manufacturing segment—comprising textiles, garments, footwear, and travel goods and bags—the total number of operational factories rose from 2,725 to 2,890 over the six-month period.

Spokesperson Sun Mesa emphasized that this positive trajectory reflects unwavering confidence among both domestic and international investors in Cambodia’s economic stability and long-term potential. He noted that the continuous inflow of capital and factory establishments demonstrates the practical success of government investment policies and strategic economic reforms, even as the broader global economy navigates ongoing market uncertainties.

The creation of over 90,000 new employment opportunities in the first half of 2026 provides concrete evidence that industrial expansion is delivering direct benefits to Cambodian citizens. By expanding formal job opportunities and strengthening local industrial capacity, the Kingdom continues to build a resilient foundation for long-term sustainable economic growth. (read more)
