Cambodia Airports to Expand Sihanoukville Airport to Accommodate Larger Aircraft

Claiming at the soft-opening of the newly-renovated passenger terminal at Sihanouk International Airport on Wednesday, Cambodia Airports has revealed their future plan to expand Sihanouk International Airport in order to to accommodate larger aircraft

The expansion will be undertaken by extending the existing single runway by 800 metres to 3.3 kilometres. Upon completion, the extended strip will be able to accommodate larger aircraft.

According to the press release by the firm, the expansion is to cope up with the increasing numbers of passengers arriving at the Sihanouk International Airport. Over the past five years, Sihanouk International Airport has seen a sharp hike in passenger numbers with an increase of 115% to 338,000 passengers in 2017 alone.

Meanwhile, the newly-renovated terminal saw an increase of 80% on the building surface, total 4,800 square metres. It also includes the expansion of the check-in area, baggage claim zone, boarding lounge, and an installation of a Baggage Handling System (BHS). Additional food and beverage outlets are included which feature popular international brands such as Blue Flight, Plaza Premium Lounge, and The Monkey Republic.
