Cambodia and Korea Collaborate on AI Initiatives to Enhance Regional Transport Safety

In a significant move to boost the safety and efficiency of regional transport systems, Cambodia and Korea have agreed to jointly implement artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. This commitment was unveiled during the 15th ASEAN-ROK Transport Cooperation Forum held in Seoul from July 8-10, 2025, under the theme “AI-based Solutions for Smarter and Safer Mobility.”

Leading the Cambodian delegation, H.E. Chhieng Pich, Cambodia’s Chief Transport Officer in ASEAN, emphasized the importance of the forum, which convenes annually to foster cooperation between ASEAN member states and the Republic of Korea.

Korea’s Minister of Land Management, Infrastructure and Transport, H.E. Park Sangwoo, highlighted the transformative role of AI in enhancing the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of transport systems across land, air, and sea. Acknowledging the diverse transportation needs within ASEAN, he stressed the collaborative spirit aimed at developing mutually beneficial solutions.

At the forum, Cambodia also showcased its Cambodia Digital Economic and Social Policy Framework for 2021-2035, along with advancements made in its Master Plan for Intelligent Transport Systems. Notable achievements include the integration of AI technologies in managing traffic in Phnom Penh, such as AI-equipped traffic lights, bus operation management systems, and smart payment solutions, particularly on expressways.

Additionally, ASEAN and Korea engaged in discussions to outline a roadmap for transport cooperation from 2026 to 2030, which is slated for presentation at the Transport Ministers’ Meeting in Myanmar in November 2025.

This partnership represents a crucial step towards a smarter and safer transportation future in the region, paving the way for innovative solutions that will benefit all member states.
