Cambodia Endorses Solid Waste Recycling & Energy Projects

The Ministry of Environment has supported the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) on a project to study the feasibility of converting solid waste into fossil fuels in the form of refuse-derived fuel in Cambodia.

The topic was discussed during a virtual meeting between HE Say Sam Al, Minister of Environment, and Mr. Frank Rijsberman, Director General of the Global Green Development Institute (GGGI) on 26 October.

HE Say Sam Al highlighted Cambodia’s progress in the field of the environment, such as improving solid waste management, increasing solar energy in mixed energy, increasing consideration for clean and renewable energy sources, and reducing consumption of plastics and the possibility of converting waste into energy.

In the meeting, Cambodia and GGGI also agreed to work on the city green project in line with the new context of Cambodia and to seek carbon market opportunities for carbon credit from energy consumption reduction, such as in the potential garment sector for the European market.
