Cambodia Never Asks to Delay Loan Repayments from Foreign Creditors

Despite the COVID-19 crisis, Cambodia has never asked creditors to delay payment or disobey any international financial obligations, according to government spokesman HE Phay Siphan on 09 October.

“As noted by Prime Minister Hun Sen, Cambodia is in a better position compared to some other countries in terms of financial status during the COVID-19 period. Cambodia has never asked creditors to delay loans or any international financial obligations,” the government spokesman wrote on his Facebook page.

“Cambodia remains active in terms of financial support for investment programs such as road infrastructure. Moreover, the government also financially supports the livelihoods of the citizens such as helping vulnerable groups and enhancing the affected public infrastructure including roads, canals or small-scale projects,” the post continued.

Regarding infrastructure development, on the same day, the cabinet approved 629 public investment projects worth over US$12 billion, of which 50% goes to infrastructure development. (Read more)
