Cambodia Produces Over 8.5 Billion Kilowatt-Hours of Electricity in 2020

Cambodia produced over 8.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity through various power plants such as coal-fired and hydropower plants over the course of 2020, a slight decrease of approximately 1.87% compared to 2019, according to Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen’s recent keynote issued on 5 April.

He added that the number of houses connected to the grid has increased to about 2.91 million, or about 81.06% of the total number nationwide. As of the end of 2020, about 97.39% of the total number of 14,498 villages nationwide, were also connected to the national grid.

Despite progress, PM Hun Sen claimed the government will continue to connect more people to the grid to improve both the local and national economy.

In recent years, Cambodia has approved various types of power investment projects. For instance, the US$1.2 billion Sihanoukville coal-fired power plant has recently been approved by the CDC. At least five solar power plants are online at the moment, while at least five more are coming. (Read more and more)
