Cambodia Signs Contract to Export 10,000 Tonnes of Milled Rice to the Philippines

Presided over by Commerce Minister Cham Nimul, the agreement between City Rice Import Export and DILAI Trading introduces cost-effective bulk barge shipping to strengthen bilateral food security

Cambodia’s City Rice Import Export Co., Ltd. and the Philippines’ DILAI Trading Co. Pte. Ltd. officially executed a purchase and sale agreement on September 14, 2026, to export 10,000 tonnes of Cambodian milled rice to the Philippine market. The signing ceremony was held under the presidency of H.E. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce, with the participation of Ms. Genina Marion Rafal, Third Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Cambodia, alongside trade officials and enterprise leadership.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Cham Nimul commended the operational growth of both corporate partners, expressing appreciation for their choice of Cambodia as a primary rice supply partner and their confidence in the quality, safety, and production capacity of Cambodian agriculture. She emphasized that the transaction represents far more than a standard commercial agreement, serving as a vital strategic milestone toward expanding Cambodia’s agricultural export footprint, reinforcing regional food security, and elevating bilateral economic cooperation between the two ASEAN member states.

To ensure seamless execution, Minister Cham Nimul urged both enterprises to fulfill the contract terms fully, efficiently, and with high professional responsibility, transparency, and close operational coordination. She stressed the necessity of adhering strictly to payment protocols, maintaining timely shipping schedules, and guaranteeing consistent supply quality throughout the contract period.

Highlighting a notable logistical breakthrough, Oknha Dr. Lay Chhunhour, Director General of City Rice Import Export Co., Ltd., revealed that the 10,000-tonne shipment will be transported using bulk barge shipping for the first time. This barge transport arrangement is designed to streamline logistics efficiency, significantly reduce transit times, and lower overall freight expenditure, thereby boosting the market competitiveness of Cambodian agricultural products across the region.
