Cambodia and Laos Inaugurate New Strategic Transit Route to Export Key Agricultural Goods to China

Cross-border transport agreement opens doors for six major Cambodian products with an initial shipment of fresh durian leading the way

The cross-border economic ties between Cambodia and Laos reached a significant milestone on June 22, 2026, with the official launch of a transit transport network designed to facilitate the export of six major Cambodian agricultural products directly to China. The inauguration ceremony was marked by an immediate operational triumph as the first convoy, consisting of four shipping containers filled with fresh Cambodian durian, departed for the Chinese market. The high-level launch event took place under the joint presidency of His Excellency Dith Tina, Cambodia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, alongside the Laotian Minister of Agriculture.

This breakthrough achievement is the direct outcome of intensive and active negotiations held between Cambodia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of Laos. Both nations worked collaboratively to streamline administrative procedures and clear regulatory frameworks, paving the way for a brand-new transit corridor to transport Cambodian crops through Laotian territory to China. The newly opened transit route specifically covers six high-potential Cambodian agricultural goods, which include bananas, mangoes, rice, Pailin longan, cassava powder, and durian.

During the ceremony, Minister Dith Tina emphasized the immense potential of this trade arrangement, describing it as a highly positive signal and a brand-new opportunity for local farmers and agribusinesses across Cambodia. He noted that the agreement provides a crucial mechanism for domestic stakeholders to capture international market opportunities and expand the global footprint of Cambodian agricultural goods. According to the ministry, establishing dependable transit frameworks with neighboring nations remains essential to lowering logistics barriers and enhancing the overall value chain for Cambodian rural producers.
