Cambodia & Thailand Forge Stronger Tourism Ties with 5-Point Cooperation Plan

The Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia and the Ministry of Tourism of Thailand have committed to enhancing bilateral tourism development through a five-point cooperation plan. This agreement was reached during the third bilateral meeting of the Ministers of Tourism from both countries, held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 17-18 July 2024, as stated in a press release.

The meeting was co-chaired by HE Sok Soken, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia, and HE Sermsak Pongpanit, Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand. To address current tourism challenges, Cambodia and Thailand agreed to focus on five key cooperation areas:

  1. Facilitation of Cross-Border Travel: Strengthening measures to ease travel for tourists from both nations and third countries.
  2. Joint Tourism Marketing Campaign: Launching the “Two Kingdoms Joint Tourism Goal & Campaign”, which includes arranging promotions on activities familiarisation trips, and tourism events.
  3. Human Resource Development: Enhancing the ASEAN Tourism Professionals Accreditation Agreement (MRA-TP) and the ASEAN Tourism Professionals Movement.
  4. Quality Tourism Development: Continuing efforts to implement various tourism service standards.
  5. Tourism Investment Promotion: Sharing information and exploring investment potentials in the tourism sector between the two countries.

Additionally, Cambodia and Thailand organised a workshop on the “Joint Tourism Professional Package” involving relevant private sectors.

This cooperation stems from the Memorandum of Understanding on Cambodia-Thailand Cooperation signed in 2014 and is a response to the bilateral meeting between Samdech Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and HE Sretha Thavisin PM of Thailand dated 02 February 2024.
