Delegates from Preah Vihear and Sambor Prei Kuk National Authorities join regional forum, contributing to the Hanoi Outcome Document for sustainable World Heritage management

Hanoi: Preserving authenticity and advancing sustainable management frameworks for cultural heritage sites have emerged as pivotal priorities for safeguarding historical monuments and empowering local communities across the Asia-Pacific region. From September 27 to October 1, 2026, two Cambodian World Heritage experts representing the National Authority for Preah Vihear and the National Authority for Sambor Prei Kuk—coordinated by the National Commission for UNESCO Cambodia—attended the “Asia-Pacific Dialogue on Heritage and Authenticity” held in Hanoi and Ninh Binh province, Vietnam.

The regional dialogue provided a key platform for Cambodian experts to share practical field experience, exchange technical insights, and collaborate with international heritage specialists on conservation, restoration, and structural preservation. Discussions underscored the central role of local communities in maintaining the authenticity and integrity of historic properties. Through these technical deliberations, the Cambodian delegation actively contributed to drafting the Hanoi Outcome Document, establishing updated regional guidelines for World Heritage governance.

Cambodia’s participation highlights the nation’s ongoing commitment to international heritage diplomacy and technical cooperation. Integrating community engagement with international conservation benchmarks ensures that cultural sites are protected against contemporary challenges while maintaining their historical authenticity for future generations.

In summary, Cambodia’s active involvement in the Asia-Pacific Dialogue on Heritage and Authenticity reinforces its position as a proactive contributor to global heritage preservation. The insights gained and partnerships forged during the forum will directly support the sustainable management of the Temple of Preah Vihear and the Temple Zone of Sambor Prei Kuk, ensuring that Cambodia’s rich cultural legacy remains protected under robust international standards.
