CHINALCO Explores Steel Production and Mineral Extraction Opportunities in Cambodia

Cambodia is continuing to position itself as a prime destination for heavy industrial transformation and resource development across Southeast Asia. On July 15, 2026, state-owned Chinese industrial giant Aluminum Corporation of China, widely known as CHINALCO, officially announced that it has been conducting comprehensive feasibility studies on steel manufacturing and mineral resources in Cambodia to drive national economic growth. The strategic initiative was highlighted during an official meeting in Beijing between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and CHINALCO President Wang Shilei.

During the high-level discussions, Wang Shilei updated the Prime Minister on the firm’s ongoing project progress within the Kingdom. He reported that feasibility studies regarding steel production and mineral resource development have yielded encouraging progress, forming a solid basis for CHINALCO to seek expanded, long-term commercial investments in Cambodia. As one of China’s premier state-owned conglomerates, CHINALCO maintains extensive global operations spanning mineral exploration and processing, infrastructure engineering, special economic zone development, and railway construction.

In response, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet warmly welcomed CHINALCO’s ambition to explore new investment opportunities across the country’s high-potential sectors. The Prime Minister specifically highlighted the government’s readiness to collaborate on major projects in national infrastructure, railway network development, and mineral resource extraction. Reaffirming Cambodia’s pro-business orientation, he assured the corporate delegation that the Royal Government stands fully prepared to support all foreign investors to guarantee predictable and long-term operational success in the Kingdom.

By aligning CHINALCO’s global technological expertise in metallurgy and logistics with Cambodia’s industrial master plan, both parties seek to foster new pillars for sustainable economic expansion.
