Chinese Firm Granted Approval to Build State-of-the-Art Multi-Purpose Port in Kampot Province

Kampot province is set to witness the development of a cutting-edge multi-purpose port as China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd (CHEC), a renowned Chinese firm, has been granted permission to construct the Kampot multi-purpose port. Following a year of meticulous soil analysis and infrastructure preparation, the signing ceremony of the construction contract took place on May 5 under the auspices of HE Sun Chanthol, marking a significant milestone for the region’s maritime infrastructure.

The ambitious project, undertaken by Kampot Logistics and Port Company Limited (KLP) in collaboration with CHEC, will be implemented in three phases with an estimated investment of approximately US$1.5 billion. Strategically located in Preak Thnot commune, Bokor City, Kampot province, the multi-purpose port aims to revolutionize the region’s shipping capabilities and economic potential. (Read more)

By 2025, the port is projected to handle throughputs of 300,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), with further expansion plans to accommodate up to 600,000 TEUs by 2030.

HE Sun Chanthol, who has championed the project, envisions the Kampot Logistics and Multipurpose Centre as a major deep-sea port, solidifying Cambodia’s position as a key player in the ASEAN region and contributing to its international trade competitiveness. Global data is used to show that the giant port – international level worth US$ 1.5 billion in Kampot has become one of the largest port projects in the world.
