Construction of Expressway 90% complete, Set to Open in July

Construction of the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway is 90% complete as of April. The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) has confirmed that the expressway will be put into temporary use in July this year.

MPWT Minister HE Sun Chanthol said during the site inspection on 26 April that the ministry is considering setting the speed limit to 120km/h in the first test drive stage, and adjusting it later based on drivers’ behaviour.

The ministry is also in discussion with the expressway investment company to set a toll fee as low as possible, less than 10 cents/km if possible.

The expressway is an investment by PPSHV Expressway Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC). It has taken 48 months to build at a cost of US$2 billion.
