Doun Tri Dam Construction 97% Complete

The construction of the Doun Tri Dam in Battambang province is now 97% complete, with final completion expected by October 2025. This significant infrastructure project, located in Rukkakiri district, is being financed through concessional loans from the Republic of Korea.

During a project progress review led by HE Tho Jetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, it was confirmed that the dam’s development is on track. “The Doun Tri Dam will play a critical role in enhancing irrigation, providing clean water, and mitigating flood risks in the region,” the minister stated.

Key components of the Doun Tri Dam project include:

1. A main dam stretching 654 metres.
2. A spillway measuring 414 metres.
3. A 462-metre-long horseshoe-shaped water diversion tunnel.
4. A multi-level water management structure featuring five gates and a 55-metre bridge,
5. A paved access road extending 17.3 kilometres,
6. Eight water release structures and three temporary bridges.

The entire construction process began in June 2018 and is expected to span 90 months. Advanced construction techniques, including tunnelling and rock excavation, have been employed to ensure the dam’s structural integrity and longevity.

Once completed, the Doun Tri Dam will boast a water storage capacity of approximately 163.1 million cubic metres. This capacity is anticipated to irrigate around 33,000 hectares of agricultural land during the rainy season and an additional 4,500 hectares in the dry season. The project promises to significantly improve the livelihoods of residents in 11 communes across Maung Russey and Rukkha Kiri districts, as well as in Bakan district of Pursat province.

In addition to agricultural benefits, the dam is designed to provide clean drinking water to local communities and reduce the risk of flooding in downstream areas, representing a vital advancement in infrastructure for the region.
