Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank Enhances Cooperation with Cambodia on Social Infrastructure Projects

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has expressed its commitment to boosting investment cooperation with Cambodia, particularly in social infrastructure development. This initiative aims to support and strengthen the Cambodian economy.

The reaffirmation of this commitment came during a meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and AIIB President Jin Liqun at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus Summit held on August 30, 2025, in China.

During the discussion, President Jin highlighted AIIB’s expertise in infrastructure development, emphasizing the bank’s readiness to collaborate on key projects in Cambodia. He underlined the importance of focusing on modern education as a critical area for investment in the country’s social infrastructure.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Sen welcomed this partnership, reiterating that infrastructure development is a top priority for Cambodia. He noted ongoing projects, such as the construction of a new international airport and the Funan Techo Canal project, which are designed to propel the growth of the industrial and logistics sectors. The Prime Minister urged the AIIB to maintain close cooperation with relevant ministries and institutions to explore additional opportunities for practical investment.

Furthermore, he underscored the Royal Government’s commitment to investing in human capital development, aiming to equip the workforce with essential skills to meet the evolving demands of Cambodia’s industrial sector, both now and in the future.

This meeting signals a proactive approach towards enhancing Cambodia’s infrastructure, fostering economic growth, and building a skilled workforce for sustainable development.
