KH, VN Agree on Multiple Deals Boosting Cross-Border Infrastructure & Transport Systems

Cambodia and Vietnam have discussed multiple matters aiming to strengthen cross-nation infrastructure and transport sectors.

During a bilateral meeting between the Minister of Public Works and Transport of Cambodia and the Minister of Transport of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on 8 November, five major topics were discussed including:

1) Cross-border Transportation:

The two parties signed an MoU for cross-border commercial transport. Under this agreement, the number of commercial vehicles crossing between the two countries is expected to increase to 800 per day.

2) International Border Gate Improvement:

The construction of the Prey Val – Binh Hiep border gate has been completed and is ready for the official opening ceremony.

Both sides also reviewed the construction of the Banteay Chakrei – Dinh Ba border gate and the rehabilitation of Provincial Road 312 with a length of 28.5km.

Meanwhile, the Chrey Thom – Khan Binh border gate is planned to be built under the Asian Development Bank (ADB) financing.

Regarding the congestion at the Bavet – Mok Bai international border checkpoint, both nations agreed to expand the road from two lanes to four lanes.

3) Phnom Penh – Bavet and Mok Bai – Ho Chi Minh Expressway:

Cambodia has requested the Vietnamese side to clarify the connection points of the Mok Bai – Ho Chi Minh route. The Vietnamese side promised to provide specific information after the technical working group completed the preparation work.

4) Bat Doeng – Trapeang Sre – Loc Ninh – Ho Chi Minh & Phnom Penh – Ho Chi Minh Railways:

The two sides proposed to set up technical working groups and officials of the two countries to discuss these common rail link points.

5) Inland Waterway Transport

The Cambodian side requested the Vietnamese side to review and facilitate the procedural issues of the flow of documents across the border of the two countries at the border checkpoint. The Vietnamese side agreed to facilitate this work with its customs authorities as soon as possible.
