Chinese Investors Eye Opportunities in Cambodia’s Booming Economy

In a significant move to strengthen economic ties, approximately 40 Chinese companies convened with representatives from the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce to explore promising investment opportunities across various sectors in Cambodia. The meeting was spearheaded by Oknha Banthi Vinh Hour, Vice President of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. Ji Lin, President of the China Chamber of Commerce, marking a pivotal moment in Cambodia’s investment landscape.

The discussions centred around several key sectors that are poised for growth, including energy, construction, manufacturing, real estate, and transportation. Both sides expressed optimism about the potential for joint investments that could enhance economic collaboration between China and Cambodia.

Notably, the momentum for investment in Cambodia continues to rise. The Council for the Development of Cambodia reported the approval of 231 investment projects within the first four months of 2025, totalling approximately USD 3.4 billion. This represents a remarkable increase of 103 projects, or 80%, compared to the same period in 2024. Investment capital during this timeframe also surged by over USD 856 million, reflecting a robust 34% growth. (Read more)

Furthermore, in late May, another group of investors submitted applications for 13 qualified investment projects, amassing a total capital of USD 318 million. The Council for the Development of Cambodia is currently conducting a comprehensive evaluation of these applications, signalling a potential surge in the country’s industrial development.
